In response to increasing consumer demand for home-grown fizz. Aldi is launching its first English sparkling wine, created in collaboration with Denbies Wine Estate.
Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine, (£14.99), has been developed exclusively for Aldi by the supermarket’s buying team, together with Denbies’ winemakers. The wine will be on sale at Aldi.co.uk from 2 October 2016. The premium sparkler will champion the growing English wine industry and help satisfy shoppers’ ever increasing thirst for locally sourced food and drink. In a recent survey, 11% of Brits said that English wine was the best in the world.
Aldi sells over five million bottles of fizz (2015 sales figures), and The Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine will be an exciting addition to its popular offering, which includes Champagne, Crémant du Jura and Prosecco.
The Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine is a high quality, dry and refreshing wine full of citrus aromas, a hint of flora and brioche, thanks to a higher percentage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes than some English sparklers. It has a creamy texture, long, zesty finish and finely balanced acidity which is sure to prove popular with Aldi’s fizz fans.
John Worontschak, Head Winemaker at Denbies Wine Estate, comments: “We’ve been making the finest English wines on the Denbies Estate since 1986 and are delighted to have had the opportunity to work alongside Aldi to create an exclusive blend, making the very best of English sparkling wine accessible to all.”
Tony Baines Aldi’s joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying, comments: “The English sparkling wine market is booming as more and more Brits are recognising it as a world class product, worthy of going head to head with the finest Proseccos and Champagnes.
Our buying teams have listened to this increasing consumer demand and we are proud to introduce the top quality ‘Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine’ to wine drinkers nationwide.”
