Chapel Down have recently announced the completion of their 2017 harvest which yielded a high level of quality fruit for their wines and resulted in being their second highest harvest by volume.
The industry saw a difficult start to the growing season this year, with a number of vineyard sites hit by a frost in late April. As a large producer, Chapel Down mitigates some of the risk of frosts by sourcing from 23 vineyards across the south and east, stretching from Dorset in the west through Hampshire and Sussex to Kent and also Essex. Chapel Down owns the largest vineyard (115 acres) in Kent, the Kit’s Coty estate on the North Downs

“Following a challenging start to the season, we enjoyed an excellent flowering season in June and a decent English summer in our vineyards. With an early harvest in good weather we were able to record our second highest ever harvest - some 10% ahead of last year.
More importantly, with good vineyard management, we saw good quality throughout the varieties, and some truly exceptional parcels of Chardonnay. With demand continuing to exceed our ability to supply, and the quality of wines continuing to improve, this harvest is further positive news for the Group.”
Chapel Down wines are listed in many of the UK’s finest restaurants and supported by leading chefs, such as Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. The range is also available nationally through Waitrose, Sainsburys, Majestic, Marks and Spencer, Majestic, Waitrose and Booths. In May 2016, Chapel Down became an official wine supplier to 10 Downing Street. It is also recognised by DEFRA as one of the UK’s ’50 Food Stars’ and is the first English wine producer to be featured on the London Stock Exchange’s ’1000 Companies to Inspire Britain’ in 2016.
