English Wine Week

Saturday 24th May - Sunday 1st June 2014

EWW logo 2014English Wine Week is a national campaign, designed to raise awareness of English wine across the country through retail outlets – from supermarkets to independent wine merchants, delicatessens to hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants. Vineyards across the country will also be opening their doors to welcome visitors, offering tours, tastings and special offers.  There are a wide range of activities taking place across the country to celebrate English Wine Week this year - see our events listing below, which is being regularly updated.

English Wine Week starts over Spring Bank Holiday which is also half term holiday for most schools. It marks the start of the tourist season, and the vineyards themselves are waking up to the new growing season – there is plenty to see and enjoy.

News on some of the events will be posted on our news pages, and follow our daily ‘English Wine Week event of the day’ on twitter @englishwine!

Saturday 1st February 2014
to Friday 29th August 2014

Vineyard Event

Our 2 hour tour ‘behind the scenes’ around our Winery, Brewery and Liqueur production facilities demonstrates a fun and extensive learning experience. As well as a full explanation of the grape pressing machinery that is used during the harvest. The bottling, labeling and capsulation machinery is later seen and explained. Last but no means least the tour is completed with a tutored 30-40 minute tasting of a generous selection of our Wines, Ales & Liqueurs.

We do recommend either getting a taxi or better still staying in our onsite B&B to really complete the experience.

Our events are held all year round and are NOT weather dependent. They are set inside the production facilities. However walking from building to building is required.

Teas and Coffees are served 1/2 an hour before the start of each tour if you'd like to purchase them or indeed soft drinks are available.

Please note our tours get VERY booked up! So do get a date in the diary to avoid disappointment! For tour dates and booking please see the website

Either way from the Chiltern Valley team we very much look forward to welcoming you on the day of your tour!

Vineyard Event Food & Wine Event

Explore two of Sussex’s finest vineyards on board the Sussex Wine Bus Tour, launching as part of English Wine Week 2014, Saturday 24th May, and running every fourth Saturday of the month until September 2014.

Hop aboard either our luxury coach or vintage Routemaster bus from Old Steine gardens in Brighton and be whisked to the award-winning Ridgeview Wine Estate at Ditchling for a vineyard and winery tour discovering why the South Downs are a world-class growing region for sparkling wine grapes.

Lunch will be taken amongst the vines courtesy of Brighton’s supper club queen Cantina, followed by a cheese tasting with David Deaves of La Cave á Fromage and a fun wine quiz with prizes to test your knowledge of English wines.

In the afternoon, the bus departs for Bolney Wine Estate where there will be a further tour of the vineyard and a closer look into still wine production, before a tasting of Bolney’s wide range of internationally acclaimed still and sparkling wines.

The wine bus tours are run by the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival, one of the UK’s largest food and drink events running two major festival periods every April and September, and a host of consumer and business-to-business events across the year.

“The Sussex Gourmet Wine Bus Tour is a fantastic opportunity to visit a number of award winning local wineries with the added fun of wine tasting”, says Mardi Roberts of Ridgeview Wine Estate. “Visitors will be given an insight into the care and effort taken in our vineyards followed by an extensive tour of all the facilities of wine production including our underground cellars.”

Each of the tours finish back in Brighton for a complimentary cocktail at Be At One – the latest addition to the city’s burgeoning cocktail bar scene. With over 120 cocktails on their list, you’re sure to find the perfect seaside sundowner.

“We are delighted to be one of the two award-winning English vineyards that have been selected to showcase the best of Sussex for the start of English Wine Week. Let’s raise a glass or two of wonderful award-winning Sussex wine and toast to that!”, says Sam Linter of Bolney Estate.

Tickets are £75 in advance, including all tastings and lunch, and are available in advance from www.brightonfoodfestival.com
